Conny is ontploft

Conny de asielhoudster van de Protectora te Fuente Vaqueros loopt al jaren op haar tenen als het gaat in de omgang met de gemeente sinds men stiekem er een dodingstation van wilde maken. Mei 2022 kwam er dus inene bij dat men de installaties (riool, electra) wilde gaan vernieuwen wat ook echt hoognodig was. Wel uitstel gevraagd omdat je nu eenmaal niet even 100 dieren ergens onderbrengt. Door de uitstel tot eind augustus heeft ze tijd gehad om de nodige dieren te plaatsen maar het nadeel is natuurlijk wel dat je geen enkel nieuw dier kunt opnemen. Dat is vreselijk maar hield ze redelijk goed vol. Uitzonderingen daargelaten want wat doe je als op 2 januari vlak bij je asiel een pup in een waterschacht gegooid is en niemand helpt.....Een dier in nood laat je niet in de steek maar je gaat er heen en vist het pupje eruit. En tja als er dan een motorrijder passeert die vertelt dat hij even verderop een andere hond uit zo een schacht probeerde te halen maar het niet voor elkaar kreeg dan redt je die hond natuurlijk ook. Gelukkig was deze laatste een geliefd huisdier die werd gemist en door een dolgelukkig baasje weer is opgehaald maar het pupje was zeer waarschijnlijk moedwillig gedumpt.

Toen er in oktober geen actie kwam van de gemeente werd Conny onrustig maar ja je wilt ook niet ruzie zoeken want je wilt graag weer terug en de gemeente te vriend houden. Maar in het nieuwe jaar nog altijd geen concreet nieuws. Op haar mail geen officieel antwoord. Als je als rescue een jaar lang dicht moet tja dan kun je wel ophouden met rescue zijn. Je bent er om dieren te helpen en dat wordt je onmogelijk gemaakt. Met de corona moesten veel projecten worden stil gelegd zoals de groep geestelijk gehandicapten die eens per week kwamen en de projecten educatie met schoolklassen. Dat had nu weer kunnen worden opgestart maar ging niet omdat ze dicht zijn. Dus ook maatschappelijk was de protectora belangrijk en leefde het bij de mensen. Maar als je al driekwart jaar gesloten bent dan wordt je vergeten. Geen nieuwe honden en katten en geen adopties maar ook geen hulp meer en geen donaties meer en wel steeds maar die stress want als het zover is moet je dus in heel korte tijd al die dieren ergens onder brengen. Dat was voor september geregeld maar als het opschuift moet je dat ook maar weer opnieuw steeds regelen. Aangezien Conny geen antwoord krijgt van de gemeente en de mensen lokaal gaan denken van "het zal wel, want er gebeurd niets met dat asiel dat is geen rescue hoor want de honden gaan nu naar het dodingstation elders" heeft ze besloten om haar hart te luchten. En haar kant van het verhaal als uitleg op de facebook pagina van het asiel gezet in meerdere talen. Ik kopieer en plak hier maar even de engelse versie. Hoe het zal gaan vallen? Geen idee maar ze heeft voor haar gevoel nu niets meer te verliezen. Als ze niet snel open kan (en dat wordt lastig aangezien de vraag ook weer is hoe lang de renovatie gaat duren als niemand de bouwers achter de broek zit want zij mogen niet op het terrein zelf verblijven in de tussentijd) dan is de rescue alsnog indicrect door de gemeente kapot gemaakt. At the end of April 2022 a person from Diputación came to the shelter to inform us that we had to vacate the premises because Diputación was going to carry out a complete refurbishment. I was shocked and when I asked him where we were going to go with more than 100 animals he replied that this was not his problem.

We asked for an urgent meeting with the Diputacionada de Medio Ambiente de Diputación where this person was also present. The Diputada also confirmed that the animals were not the responsibility of the Diputación and that it was our problem and we wondered if we take in dogs and cats from the province of Granada and the Diputacion de Granada represents all the people of Granada whose animals are they? .........

Thanks to the intervention of the President of the Diputacion we managed to be allowed to stay in the Fuentevaqueros facilities until the work started, which was supposed to be in September.

It is now mid-January and we still know nothing at all. At the beginning of December we asked by e-mail for a meeting with the Diputada de Medio Ambiente and to this day we have not heard anything back.

I have gone from being upset and disappointed to being distressed and depressed.

Since we have been notified, we have tried to deal with this in the best possible way, collaborating with them in everything. Contributing ideas, photos, information to the architect so that the renovations could be done in the best way for the animals, dismantling and storing material that we thought we would not need in a few months, spending food,...

The Sociedad Protectora de Animales y Plantas de Granada has been helping animals in the province of Granada for more than 40 years. I have been in the shelter for 10 years and we have never asked the Diputación for anything apart from letting us do our work and a water well, which we have never got either.

Apart from having taken in more than 2,511 animals in the last 9 years at the shelter, we are visited by day centres, centres for minors, people who carry out work for the benefit of society, international student exchanges as volunteers. We have an agreement with several city councils for the CER method, we give awareness talks in schools, city councils, etc....

For more than 8 months we have had hardly any income, adoptions, volunteers or donations. And NO DOG OR CAT ADMISSIONS in this time. We are sinking not only economically but also psychologically and they are playing with the illusion of many people to help. And if this continues we are doomed to disappear.

In November 2021 the Provincial Council awarded us the Medal of Honours and Distinctions of the province for our work and 6 months later they want to evict us? I honestly don't understand it.

I know that we are not a Foundation or an important company that can be of interest to take pictures and give votes, we are a simple and small non-profit association that fights for the welfare of dogs and cats in the province of Granada and the Diputación de Granada doesn't care in the slightest. I am sure that my message is not going to be liked and will probably have reprisals but I am tired of them playing with the lives of the animals of Granada and they do not take seriously the life and welfare of the animals or the associations that have been helping them all their lives without asking for anything in return.

 ​Wij hadden toegezegd met nog 4 honden te helpen en deze staan nu definitief ingepland voor transport 18 februari aankomst. We hopen dat in de tussentijd nog baasjes komen voor Brown en de andere lieverds ter adoptie hier. Er lopen helaas thans geen reacties.
